Mass Cleanup and Mosquito Nest Eradication Carried Out on Untung Jawa Island

Thousand Islands Regency held a mass clean-up and mosquito nest eradication (PSN) in Untung Jawa Island Urban Village, South Thousand Islands Sub-district.

Thousand Islands Regent Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan said these activities were conducted as cleanliness is essential to supporting the tourism sector.

"Today, we are organizing a mass clean-up to clean the environment in RW 01 to 03, Untung Jawa Island Urban Village. This activity involves all parties, including government officials, the community, and other institutions," he stated, on Wednesday (10/8).

Alongside the clean-up, mosquito nest eradication was also carried out to prevent dengue fever (DBD) cases.

"We don't know when Dengue Fever might strike, particularly with the ongoing unpredictable weather. I encourage residents to cooperate in maintaining a clean environment to help prevent DBD cases in the Thousand Islands," he emphasized.

Untung Jawa Island Urban Vilage Head, Sidartawan mentioned that the activity involved around 150 joint personnel from PPSU, RPTRA administrators, Transportation, Water Resources (SDA), Park UKT 2, Gulkarmat, PKK cadres, Jumantik, RT/RW administrators, and local residents.

"Besides cleaning, we also carried out PSN and fogging the area to prevent dengue fever," he added.

He aims for this effort to raise public consciousness regarding environmental hygiene to maximize DBD prevention. During the clean-up, the team collected around 50 cubic meters of organic and inorganic waste.

"We thank all parties who participated in this activity. Hopefully, our area will remain clean and attract more tourists," he said.

Zulkifli, a resident of RT 01/01, Pulau Untung Jawa, expressed his appreciation for the initiative, highlighting its role in keeping the area clean and preventing DBD. He added that it also fosters stronger ties between the community and local authorities.

"Besides making the environment clean, we also realize the importance of maintaining health. Hopefully, DBD cases can be prevented in our area," he shared.
